Etching, typewriting, chine-collé / Variable edition of 15 / 17cmx29.5cm / 2025
I have been exploring the plurality and performativity of printmaking. Traditional shanshui does not possess the edition-based multiplicity that printmaking does, but it embodies a much stronger performativity. In literati painting, one paints, writes inscriptions and finally applies one’s own seal. Brushwork and the act of pressing the seal are an extension of the body in expressing erudition and the cultivated self. The exercise here is just to break the continuity between the body and the mark for fun. As a rather sly creator, working through the mediators of the copper and the typewriter, it becomes difficult to tell who is to blame for the clumsy calligraphy and painting.
